If you’re a Jane Austen fan, then the 1996 version of the movie, Emma, is surely on your list of must see movies. Starring a youthful Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeremy Northam, Toni Collette, Alan Cumming and many more, the scenes of the English countryside are breathtaking.

Follow Emma as she matchmakes her way through scene after scene, hoping to marry everyone off to somebody, and finally, gets her due through her own moment of self-discovery.

There’s a new adaptation of Emma coming sometime later this year or early 2020, and you can read about it here. For die-hard fans, you might also like the PBS series that came out in 2009.

Bring your popcorn and join us for the delightful escapades of Jane Austen’s Emma at the Edgewater Branch Library in the Betty A. Barclay Community Room on the second floor.

Part of “Emma Fest: Celebrating Jane Austen,” presented by the Edgewater Branch Library in partnership with Edgewater Village Chicago and Friends of the Edgewater Library.
