Fiction, including Thrillers/Mystery/Suspense, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Adventure, Children/Young Adults Literature, Classics, Romance, Westerns, and many more.
Volunteer
We are always looking for volunteers to help sort and prep books, set-up for/break-down after the Book Sale, host the membership desk, provide general information on the day of the Book Sale, and many other tasks related to our Book Sale and our Pop-Up Book Sales.
If you want to play with us for the Book Sale, email us or use the form on the Volunteer page.
Unsold Books
Unsold books are donated to Edgewater Reads’ Little Edgewater Libraries, Chicago Books for Women in Prison, several neighborhood senior residences, and Better World Books.
Pop-Up Book Sales
We periodically host Pop-Up Book Sales. We’ll post them on the home page whenever we schedule one.
All Annual Used Book Sale and Pop-Up Book Sales proceeds go to Friends of the Edgewater Library, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Funds are then used to support the programs, events, and needs of the Edgewater Branch Library.

Donate Gently Used Books | What We Accept
Friends accept donations of gently used books just before our Book Sale. We are not currently accepting book donations.
Help Us Out
Help us out and sort your books before you drop them off by genre, e.g. mystery, children’s, cookbooks, science fiction, etc. Then, label the bag or box with the genre it contains. If you have multiple genres in a single bag/box, use paper to separate and label each different genre. You may place boxes on the floor beside the donation barrel. Please do not leave books outside after library hours or deposit them in the after-hours dropoff boxes.
Save our hard-working volunteers time and effort by discarding damaged books before you drop off to the library. Please do not use the Book Sale as a garbage depot. We do not accept damaged or soiled books. Please see the list below for acceptable and non-acceptable book sale items.
If you’re unsure whether your items are acceptable, email us, and if possible, please attach a photo of the items you want to donate.
Please help our volunteers by only donating:
Books in good condition only. Please be sure to check out what we don’t accept.
We do not accept the following:

DVDs, CDs, audio cassette tapes, and VHS cassettes of any type
