Our Mission

To partner with and advocate for the Edgewater Branch Library.

Working with the Branch leadership and staff, we continually provide needed resources to keep the library relevant to all members of our community.

When necessary, we go to bat for the Library with our Alderman and other neighborhood organizations. Representatives from the Alderman’s office attend our meetings.

We work in collaboration with other community organizations to ensure the Edgewater Library’s perspective is fully represented in issues affecting our neighborhood.

To respond to our community’s library needs.

We regularly engage the community with programs such as co-sponsoring the library’s Bingo on the last Friday of most months, informative presentations, and by participating in 48th Ward events.

We host multiple book sales for the community. All proceeds support materials and programming for the library.

We co-host The No Book Club in partnership with Edgewater Village Chicago and the Edgewater Branch Library. Check the bulletin board in the Library or see our Event Calendar or the No Book Club page for dates and times.

To educate and engage the community in using and enjoying all our library’s resources.

We purchase books and other materials for the library’s collection. Friends supplements Library programs with materials, promotional efforts, and other resources. We also create Resource Lists for community organizations to encourage residents to explore a topic further at the library. Want a Resource List for your organization or event? Request one here.

Friends is a big supporter of the Summer Reading Program for children. We also fund many activities for teens and adults throughout the year.

We welcome ideas for programs and events from the Edgewater community. Please email us your suggestions.

Read our Bylaws and Policy Manual.

Friends of the Edgewater Library is committed to fostering engagement, a sense of belonging,
fair and equitable treatment, shared respect, and open participation to all.
