To kick off the program, Her Story Theater presents a historical portrayal of three Illinois suffragettes, Grace Wilbur Trout, Ida B. Wells, and Catherine Waugh McCullough, who fought for the vote and the ratification of the 19th Amendment in Illinois.

These three distinct personalities with very different approaches band together to form a powerful, united front in fighting for equality in a day when little was offered for women. You’ll also hear from some of the men who supported and opposed these determined women.

In part two of the evening, Anne Jamieson, president of the League of Women Voters of Chicago, will join Her Story Theater Producing Artistic Director Mary Bonnett for a lively discussion that reminds us that the fight for the right to vote continues today in many forms and suggests how the might of individuals is still necessary to overcome voting disparities. For those who might not know, the League of Women Voters of the United States was founded here in Chicago on February 14, 1920.

A Q&A session will follow. We encourage event attendees to come prepared with questions about the right to vote and what you can do now to be prepared for Election 2020.

Register now for this program. Download the flyer to post or share with others.
