Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter. — Rachel Carson, Silent Spring
In recognition of Earth Day, join us for Rachel Carson: The Woman Who Launched the Environmental Movement with performance artist Leslie Goddard as Rachel Carson, author of “Silent Spring.”
As many of you know, Leslie has appeared at many area libraries as portraying a variety of historical women - from Amelia Earhart to Eleanor Roosevelt and more.
She has also lectured on many of the icons of the past and present, such as Remembering Marshall Fields, The Colorful History of the Little Black Dress and others.
Leslie’s artistry is a unique combination of a historian by education and performance artist by avocation.
This event is presented by Friends of the Edgewater Library, Edgewater Village Chicago, and Edgewater Branch Library.
