On Guard!

It wasn’t swordplay or rivalry – but wordplay and revelry -- as two sisters engaged the audience and advanced the art of poetry performance in a delightful program co-sponsored by Friends of the Edgewater Library and the Edgewater Branch Library this past November.

During the premiere of their program, “Sibling Revelry: Two Sisters Reading Poetry,” award-winning authors, Gay Guard-Chamberlin and Anara Guard, didn’t just read their poems, they performed them. Their poems were thoughtful, clever, touching – sometimes funny, sometimes sad – but always with expressive imagery and use of masterful wordplay. One audience member commented, “Apparently, I can like poetry.”

Gay and Anara donated copies of their books to the library. Gay’s book is “Red Thread Through a Rusty Needle” and Anara’s is “Hand on My Heart.” If you missed the program or want another chance to hear their poetry, visit these locations:
