The Watergate Girl Goes to the Library!

View the author of The Watergate Girl, Jill-Wine Banks in conversation with Nina Barrett, author of The Leopold and Loeb Files: An Intimate Look at One of America's Most Infamous Crimes. You can be a fly on the wall listening to these two authors discuss books, writing, politics, history, their love of libraries, and more to celebrate National Library Week.

During National Library Week we recognize the contributions of our library workers and the value of free access to resources, services, and programs offered by our public libraries. Next time you visit the library, please consider acknowledging your appreciation to library staff.

From Jill & Nina

“Libraries have been an important part of my life,” Jill said. “I’ve had a lifelong love of books based on my experience in the library.” As a girl, she read the Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames series. She recalled visiting the Graeme Stewart Elementary School library in Uptown, and the librarian recommended reading Seventeen by Booth Tarkington. She mostly reads non-fiction books now, opinion pieces, and news stories to stay current.

Nina remembered reading the Famous Americans biographies when she visited the library in rural Connecticut as a girl. Now, as the owner of Bookends & Beginnings, an independent bookstore in Evanston, IL, she’s surrounded by books and continues to be an avid reader. She’s currently interested in reading about mansions in Chicago’s Hyde Park.
